History
04:02
|
|||
It seems only yesterday we stood
Beneath our moonlight getaway
There we could stay forever young
And this was the beauty of that place
But you will be leaving here at dawn
The train never comes a minute late
They'll erase all the pictures we have drawn
and coax you to forget my face
Stay inside with me
Light a candle on the windowpane so we can see
Burn our eulogy
Grab the pen and change the pages of our history
We talk about trying to kill the time
While time is slowly killing us
The next thing you know we've slipped away
Branches swept into the underprush
One day a memory may be all we have
So let's make a mess and hope what's left will hold fast
Stay inside with me
Light a candle on the windowpane so we can see
Burn our eulogy
Grab the pen and change the pages of our history
The clocks made it clear that soon as you have gone they'll come for me
Thats just the way the rules have always been
But I've got a trick or two still up my sleeve
And I've got no interntion of going quetly
Stay inside with me
Light a candle on the windowpane so we can see
Burn our eulogy
Grab the pen and change the pages of our history

The Tether
04:42
|
|||
Running in one direction left me so far from home
That I lost my intentions, the only way to go was alone
And every time night surrounds me the bed will lie hard and cold
Awaiting a warmer body to lie in the folds
Out on the tether you celebrate never
and wake for the weather, a bachelor forever
you don't see the stars even when you are staring
cause no one is sharing the same set of eyes
I met her in cold October when walls were three stories high
and on each side dancing embers longed for the sky
Out on the tether you celebrate never
and wake for the weather, a bachelor forever
you don't see the stars even when you are staring
cause no one is sharing the same set of eyes
Give me your hand and your heart and wait for the snow
We'll dance when it lands and hold hands whe its time to go
I'll give you my faith on a sterling sliver plate so you can dine
we'll toast to the death of the wall and leave the rest to time
Will you leave me out in the dark to die
or will you give me the last dance of the night
I had a heart once, but I forgot his name
I hear he hangs around the same place, I bet he's still the same
Now that the tether has gone with the weather
We'll never say never, punch drunk forever
And I see the stars every time I am staring
cause now we are sharing the same set of eyes
Running in one direction now that there's not much to guess
here where they dont play chess
we'll lie in the wake of the songs that we make so let's love and partake

Mrs. Gardener
03:09
|
|||
The prettiest flower in the field is always so close to the edge of the cliff
I don't mind the fall as long as I can have it
Water and sunlight is all you ask
but your life's on your back and you cant unpack
Im quiet now but Im turning inside, afraid that you might die
What's the worry Mrs. Gardener
What's the worry Mrs. Gardener
I wont wait here idly
while you stay locked inside
A window's fine but I hear that a touch is better
Somebody can only give you everything they have until it becomes what they had
So if you give half of it back, you'll know its not so bad
What's the worry Mrs. Gardener
What's the worry Mrs. Gardener
I wont wait here idly
while you stay locked inside
A window's fine but I hear that a touch is bette

Maybe I'll fall from a window ten stories up
Or even be trapped in a raging flash flood
worries can be so trite
what better day to die
Maybe an earthquake will swallow me whole
or I'll be struck by a European in his Jaguar on the road
A kiss left me on cloud 9
What better day to die
She's got something in that smile
That tells me I am more than alive
A coaster could derail and send me flying into the air
A dive team might come up early and forget Im still down there
Worries can be so trite
What better day to die
A kiss left me on cloud 9
What better day to die

The Lass
02:15
|
|||
Behind the weathered wood and stone
And shards of broken glass
A child born without a dime
Would grow up all to fast
With hair of silk, a voice of gold
she’d make her parents proud
She’d sing the world her songs of hope
And buy this dying town
Late at night when cold rushed in
She lay hungry and tired
But nothing would ever put out her fire
Sweet as wine she left
The world drank her by the sip
Growing warm inside they all heard money
Dancing from her lips
Fame and fortune’s leaky ship
Saw waters rising higher
But nothing would ever put out her fire
She’d been bought and sold like aged merlot
The world had drank it’s fill
Years had passed, this aging lass eventually grew ill
But her spark had set a blaze that stayed
When her hear beat had expired
But nothing will ever put out her fire

Eye of the Storm
03:25
|
|||
Down inside a town the folks were up about and all around
safe and sound
up into the sky there layed a stratus fratus lullabye
twenty miles out a charcoal storm began to spin about
and speak aloud
a boy out on the shore he felt a wind hed never felt before
like ancient lore
everyone knows the sound of thunder
hold on tight or youll be pulled under now
a day here i one lifetime long
so look up and know nothings wrong
inside the eye of the storm
the heavens opened wide and pounred forth everything they had inside
ans as they tried to run and save their lives
the heavens seemed to hear the peoples cries
they knew theyd be just fine
everyone knows the sound of thunder
hold on tight or youll be pulled under now
a day here i one lifetime long
so look up and know nothings wrong
inside the eye of the storm
everyone knows the sound of thunder
hold on tight or youll be pulled under now
a day here i one lifetime long
so look up and know nothings wrong
inside the eye of the storm

Will of a Fisherman
03:46
|
|||
Words crash like waves on the shore
I should have said so much more
The sea can add years to a night
When you're miles away from a light
I will try
To make things right
But this hole in the side of the boat that I ride
Seems to be telling me this
That I won’t make it home and ill die here alone
Mourning the corpse of a wish
And counting the things that I miss
I tried to give all that I’ve got
But I couldn’t be something I’m not
The world below silently stirs
The wind above carries the birds
I will try
To make things right
All that we made and all that you gave
Ill never, ever forget
and this hole in my heart is my heart
Is my own work of art
My self-inflicted regret
Some would say “that’s what you get”
Then I see daybreak
Sun bring me light, bring me warmth
I’ll know its not too late
Sun bring me home, to the shore
I will try
To make things right
If I get home I swear you’ll never feel alone
Again
